Two kisses and a steamy song: Soha sheds all inhibitions

Two kisses and a steamy song: Soha sheds all inhibitionsSoha Ali Khan is finally coming out of the shell and recent pictures from Tum Mile are ample proof of that.

After locking lips with Emraan Hashmi for the film, the duo has now shot a steamy music video at at a Yari Road bungalow which will be used for the promotion of the movie.

While talking to a tabloid director Kunal Deshmukh reveals, "When I told Soha about the music video, her initial reaction was: 'What? You are selling sex!' She has this asexual tag to her.

It is like Soha is not a sexy actress. But she has a great body and her 'no kiss, no this and no that' persona on screen is finally breaking through her head. She is now shedding all her inhibitions."

Earlier, Kunal wanted to direct it himself but felt that it looked too made-up. Thats why; he asked Emraan and Soha to direct it themselves. He wanted the song to have an amateur feel.

So, the two of them were handed video cameras and asked to shoot each other. Kunal is satisfied with the way the video has come out. Emraan and Soha enjoyed the experience as they felt they werent under any pressure.

It is learnt that, Soha was intially not comfortable doing steamy scenes with Emraan but finally, on Deshmukh's insistence, she understood the need of the script and agreed to do it.

Well, at the beginning, I was a little reluctant and didnt want to go ahead with the second kiss because the script demanded just one as was told to me.

But when Kunal explained the seriousness of the requirement for another kiss in the song, saying it would convey an entirely different mood, I agreed to do it. But its a sweet, tame kiss and shot in good taste. The song is itself so beautiful that the kiss just adds a little more to it. After watching the song, I really loved it and understood how important the scene was, says Soha.

Adds Emraan, I dont think that there is any issue at all. Even I was told that there is just one kissing scene in the film, but when the second kiss scene piled on from the directors point of view, the question was natural. So, I think Soha was correct in her reluctance. But she did understand the need of the scene and we did it comfortably.

Tum Mile's Naming issues

Tum Mile`s Naming issuesProducer Mahesh Bhatt is rapidly thinking of titles to replace the title of his upcoming film, Tum Mile, even though there is hardly a month left for the film to release.

The reason for suddenly wanting to change the title is that he feels it doesnt suit the films story, which is about the Mumbai floods in 2005, and makes it sound like a romantic film.

He asked director Kunal Deshmukh to change the title to either Aandhi or Toofan or Rain.

Says Mahesh Bhatt, I made a suggestion to Kunal to change the title of the film. The new title should have mass appeal so that more people can relate to the film."

But Kunal feels the current title is appropriate.

"Kunal has his own arguments about Tum Mile being apt, but we will sort out the issue soon, he adds.

The film stars Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan.

Tum Mile - Movie Preview

Tum MileTwo people who meet after a hiatus of six years, now occupying different worlds. Evidently, they had moved on ...

What starts off as a seemingly innocuous encounter on the same flight back to Mumbai ends up as a roller-coaster ride through some of the darkest hours of Mumbai, as they see the city get swamped with disaster and loss ... and are forced to stick together in this time of crisis. The story shifts perspective between the past and the present, a glorious but crazy past of two starkly different people falling in love, the differences at first being exciting.

Gradually with time, they journey through the emotional pitfalls attached, the constant bickering, the frantic and urgent making up, and irreconcilable differences that give way to a final break up.

And then we see those very people struggling their way through a stormy night in Mumbai that threatens to take over the city, their fears and insecurities lying bare as their guard drops.

As emotions run high, the two learn more about each other on that night possibly than they knew in all those years of being together tough situations call on some important revelations and they realize how transient and unpredictable life is and they need to make the most of the time that has been given to them together.

Despite reservations, Soha smooches with Emraan not once but twice

Despite reservations, Soha smooches with Emraan not once but twice Though there was buzz that Soha Ali Khan had refused a liplock with Emraan Hashmi in Tum Mile, she has kissed the actor not once but twice over!

The snapshot above shows that Saif Ali Khan's sister has puckered up with her co-star (known for his on-screen smooches) though with great reservations.

Says director Kunal Deshmukh, "I told Soha at the outset that the script demanded one kiss which was to be in a song. Though she had agreed to it, when it came to the shoot, she had second thoughts."

It is learnt that the actress needed a lot of convincing to do the scene. Finally, when the director explained the context to her, she performed the sequence in one shot." But things did not end there. Kunal later felt there was a need for another liplock. "Soha had agreed to kiss during a song sequence. But while shooting, I realised that one more scene needed a kiss."

The director explains that as Soha and Emraan play a live-in couple there had to be physical closeness. "In stead of having the camera all over them, I thought a liplock would say it all. Soha was extremely reluctant but she agreed later."

Says Soha, "I had reservations as this was the first time but after discussions with the director, we went ahead with it. It wasn't in the script, that's why it took me by surprise. But it is a very sweet, tame kiss and is shot in good taste."

Produced by Vishesh Films, Tum Mile is set against the July 2005 Mumbai floods and is slated for a November release.

Soha is one of those who would never give up

Soha is one of those who would never give upBollywood actress Soha Ali Khan's "new appeal" and "mature" looks helped her bag "Tum Mile", says Kunal Deshmukh.

"I needed someone like Soha who has the looks that still have a new appeal despite being in the film industry, but could also bring in some maturity to her character. I did not need a newcomer and hence it was my idea to cast her for 'Tum Mile', " Deshmukh told in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.

"In fact, it was for this reason that I cast her opposite Emraan (Hashmi) and it has turned out to be a brilliant casting. She's done her job very well and I am so happy to have roped her in the project, " he added.

"Tum Mile" is a romantic movie about a couple stuck in the July 26, 2005, Mumbai deluge.

Co-produced by Sony Music and Vishesh Films, "Tum Mile" is Deshmukh's second directorial venture after "Jannat".

"We needed to recreate the deluge and had to shoot in water for over 12 hours a day for 'Tum Mile', but rather than throwing tantrums, Soha showed exemplary levels of energy on the sets, " said Deshmukh.

"Soha was like GI Joe (military-themed action figure). She didn't get tired at all and never stopped. She kept on working. She is one of those who would never give up, " he added.

Deskhmukh feels that Soha, who has appeared in films like "Rang De Basanti", "Mumbai Meri Jaan" and "Ahista Ahista", is yet to get her due in the Hindi film industry.

"She has been very good in her career so far and is getting better. She is an extremely talented actress. Unfortunately, she hasn't got a great role yet to show her skills but eventually she will, " he said.

"Tum Mile" is tentatively slated for release on July 24.

Soha denies doing intimates with Shiney

Soha denies doing intimates with ShineyForget mindless blood and gore, PNC's next horror-cum-psychological fare, Accident, will really send a chill down your spine and keep you on the edge of the seat.

Produced by Pritish Nandy and Rangita Nandy, the film stars Shiney Ahuja, Soha Ali Khan, Rahul Dev and others.

The cinematography is by Abhik Mukherjee of (Bunty Aur Bubli and Chokher Bali fame); The Accident is a 'classic psychological horror film, which shows the deterioration of a womans mind'.

The film is about a couple moving from California to India, and meeting with an accident soon after. The woman loses her child, creating an emotional rift between the couple. Life takes an eerie turn after they move to a certain bungalow

. There on, the condition of the girl's mind deteriorates... or does it really? Or are supernatural powers at play? As director Abhijit Chaudhuri aka Dadu (the renowned ad film maker in the league of Sudhir Mishra and Anurag Basu) puts it, "The Accident is horror in the tradition of The Tenant.

It is more a mind game than a blood-fest. Scary and freezing because the fear is immediate and palpable." Soha seconds this thought, as she says, "It (the film) has an international quality to it... As the film progresses, it will keep the audiences guessing."

Well, another reason why the film is in news is because of some intimate scenes between Soha and Shiney.

The duo has shared the screen in Khoya Khoya Chand earlier. Soha refutes that there are too many intimate scenes or too much intimacy in them.

She says that there isn't a lovemaking scene, as such, and there are only silences and shadows. Though the actress has no qualms about doing such scenes, she admits to drawing a line if she is not comfortable.

Lately, media has been speculating about the completion of the film and when we contacted the Mr. Ram Kamal Mukherjee, Vice President, Pritish Nandy Communications, he added, "We have completed more than 90% shoot of the film.

We need to shoot just three to four more days. The scenes would require Soha Ali Khan and Shiney Ahuja. We will be shooting the solo Soha scenes and other patch works first.

Once we get fresh dates from Shiney Ahuja we shall resume the shoot and wrap up the film."

When asked about the reports published in various websites and news agency that the fate of the film is undecided, Mr Mukherjee added, "Certainly not. The film is almost complete and we would release it whenever we are ready with it.

It's a new kind of cinema, a treatment which is not seen on Indian celluloid. Moreover I am very confident about the fact that people will get to see a talented filmmaker like Abhijit Choudhuri and writer Arindam Mitra.

Horror films will get a different definition with The Accident." So, the audiences need to get ready to get spooked out.

Female actors are smarter than males: Soha

Actress Soha Ali Khan, who boasts of a strong educational background and sound work experience in the corporate world, has no qualms in saying that actresses in Bollywood are smarter and more intelligent than their male counterparts.

"I think the female actors are far more intelligent than the male actors. I think it's a misnomer to say that actresses are not smart and I think they are deeply in touch with emotions, " Soha told.

Soha, who belongs to the family of the erstwhile Nawabs of Pataudi, attended the British School here before graduating from Oxford University. She then pursued a masters degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

She then worked for the New York-based Ford Foundation and later joined global financial service provider Citibank. Only after that did she venture into the world of Bollywood with "Dil Maange More" in 2004.

Soha, who rose to prominence with "Rang De Basanti", "Khoya Khoya Chand" and more recently "Mumbai Meri Jaan", said actresses had to be smart to manage their career and strike a balance between their public and personal life.

"We do have very intelligent actresses in our country. They are all very capable, smart and managing their professions very well, " she said.

According to her, it is important for actresses to be vigilant all the time due to the multiple and often complicated aspects of their lives.

"There is media, glamour, travelling, managing private and public life - it's difficult and now there's a business angle to films as well. Now it's not just about the art, it's about how you package your image and how you sell a film, your choices of films - and it's all quite unforgiving.

"If you make too many mistakes, there are far too many people who will be ready to do the job and you'll be replaced at the blink of an eye. I think it requires a huge amount of intelligence to be an actor, " Soha added.

Thank God for such dedicated actors in our cinem: Nishikant Kamat

The self-effacing director started his career with a Marathi film Dombivli Fast in 2005 which was about a common man losing his patience in the melee of routine jolts and humiliations.

It quickly became one of Marathi cinema's moder classaics, spawning a Tamil version and soon a Hindi adaptation too. Kamat's new film Mumbai Meri Jaan tracing trauma after the train blasts on July 11, 2006 is undoubtedly one of the finest socio-political messages delivered through the cinematic medium in recent times. Kamat chats with Subhash K Jha

There's a spate of films including your Mumbai Meri Jaan on different aspects of terrorism. Do you see that as a heatlhy sign?
I see that as a sign of the times. We're going through very troubled times. Cinema is meant to be reflect contemporary reality. All these films on terrorism coming together is just a bizarre not a bazaar coincidence.

My idea behind making Mumbai Meri Jaan is to show how people survive a personal tragedy. I was more interested in the characters than the tragedy of the train blasts.

The footage showing the blasts is palpable?
I recreated the blasts rather than using news footage. It took me 15 days to shoot the blasts scenes. By coincidence all my three films so far have trains as a backdrop.

I don't think I'll make another film with trains at the backdrop for another ten years. That the blasts happened in trains was a grim fact I had to incorporate in my film. I did a lot of technical research about the locations and timings of the blast. Beyond that everything in Mumbai Meri Jaan is fictional.

Yes, the characters are made up. But I'm sure a lot of people went through the same emotions after the blasts. I haven't experienced any of the things shown in my film. But I'm sure they've happened to people. I lived with my characters for two years. They drained me emotionally. I don't know when I'm going to direct again.

Of the characters in film which one do you identify with the most?
The one played by Madhavan. Like him I'm proud to be an Indian. But when a tragedy like a bomb blasts happens it shakes your faith in the nation.

I came very close to the 1993 Mumbai blasts. I passed close by to where one of the blasts occurred. That traumatized me and I've poured my heart out into Madhavan's character. He expresses the fears that I felt 15 years ago when the blasts happened. I feel any act of extremism over a city causes the anthill effect.

A stone hits the anthill, the ants are traumatized. But they immediately get to rebuilding their anthill.

Neeraj Pandey who has directed another film on terrorism A Wednesday says when we talk of the resilience of the Mumbayites after every attack we're only looking for another word for acceptance out of compulsion.
That's partly true. We're truly tolerant. After each attack the people feel helpless. But Mumbaiyites do have the inner strength to bounce back. I really don't have the answers. I've only put across the problem in Mumbai Meri Jaan.

A lot of the credit for the authenticity of my film goes to Yogesh Doshi for his colloquial dialogues. I was not sure whether the episodic format of filmmaking was going to work in this film.

Episodic films haven't worked in Hindi cinema so far?
I was aware of that. It was a new style of narration fo me.A lot of people wanted to know why I was doing five stories in one film. But these five characters had to have their say.

The script chose the actors. Every actor from Paresh Rawal to Soha Ali Khan said yes when they read the script. Writing the script took nine months, casting just took one month. I knew KayKay Menon and Irrfan from the time I worked with them on television ten years ago.

For them too it was the script. And thank God for such dedicated actors in our cinema. Otherwise a film like Mumbai Meri Jaan can never be made. I'm deeply honoured to have worked with such a great bunch of actors. Paresh Rawal is an institution.KayKay has a great eye for detail.

Irrfan 's understanding of a character is incomparable.Soha Ali Khan pushed herself beyond the edge. And Madhavan didn't have to act at all.

Why do you think it didn't get a large audience?
I've no clue. I don't think about the boxoffice when I make a film. I just make what I have to without considering the consequences. It's been a strange but enriching journey for me, from Marathi to Tamil (which I didn't know a word of ) to Hindi. I hope the journey continues to make me a wiser and better director.

I do want to get married and have a couple of kids

The day Mumbai nearly drowned hasn't been forgotten. At least not by Mukesh Bhatt. He's now making a film with Soha Ali Khan and Emran Hashmi about the 2005 trauma.

Says Soha, "This is my second film based on a real trauma that happened to Mumbai. But I was in Pondicherry when the Mumbai train blasts on which Mumbai Meri Jaan is based, happened.

I was shooting an ad campaign in Pondicherry. But I was right here in Mumbai when the monsoon deluge happened. We're shooting the film in November. It's a love story set on the night of the floods in Mumbai. Kunal Deshmukh who did Jannat is directing it."

Reading the script Soha relived the entire trauma of that fateful day in 2005. "I had gone to town and got trapped in the deluge in the evening. My car broke down and I had to make my way through the deluge. A friend found me walking through the water. We went to a mutual friend's house where I passed the night dressed in someone else's clothes."

The one memory that Soha has of that rainy day was that of being very hungry. "And of course losing my slipper in the horribly dirty water. I was submerged in the water. And I pretended I was someone else when Kunal Kohli spotted me wading through the water. Getting home was never more pleasurable."

Soha's home which she bought last year keeps getting additional stuff into it. "Every time my mom visits she adds or takes away something into it. I feel very settled now in my house. I love being at home. And I like to be by myself. Being a little mysterious is good, no? "

Ask her when her life progresses to its next logical stage, and she laughs, "What is the next stage? Have you been talking to my mother?

If you mean marriage then right now I feel too young and too selfish to share my space with anyone else. My elder sister and brother are both unmarried. Let them get married. I'm not mature enough to think of marriage. I don't have a vision beyond a year.

And I don't see it happening in a year. But I do want to get married and I do want to have a couple of kids. When I decide to marry then I'll start thinking about who it would be to."

Speaking on Saif and Kareena, Soha says, "They're both very happy together. It's a very strong relationship. I'm looking for a similar permanency in my life. But let me tell you, I'm happy in the place that I am in. So I don't need to be envious of anyone else's happiness."

Soha had great fun at Saif's birthday party. "The turn-out was lovely. Kareena arranged everything at the last minute. She was the perfect hostess."

All is not well in Soha and Siddharth's love life

Soha Ali Khan recently hinted in all her interviews at all being well in her love life but we have found out her claims don't exactly hold true under the latest developed circumstances.

The love birds Soha and Siddharth have been fighting yet again of late.

Our source close to Soha revealed, "Siddharth is a very busy star down South. He is settled in Chennai but has to constantly keep shuffling between Chennai - Hyderabad and Mumbai thanks to his shooting commitments.

Though he is a Tamilian he hardly acts in Tamil films and is extremely popular and busy doing Telugu films post the stupendous success of his romantic comedy, Bommarilu.

What irks Soha is that since he is not doing anything much in Chennai why doesn't he leave the port city for good and settle in Mumbai itself along with her and keep shuffling between Mumbai - Hyderabad. Siddharth was in Mumbai last week and stayed as usual in Soha's flat for a few days.

This time they both had heated arguments over this matter. While Soha kept persisting, Siddharth was not interested in moving in to Mumbai at all.

The arguments reached such a point that he left Mumbai a day early than he had scheduled."

"Siddharth's career despite a rocking debut in Rang De Basanti has not really picked up in Mumbai. He was promised many big films but none fell in his lap. Even mentor Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra ditched him at the last minute for Dilli 6.

Its been more than a 2 and a half years since Rang De released.

With no film released yet since then, Siddharth is in a mood to wrap the projects in hand in Bollywood and settle in Chennai for good. Soha is completely against this.

Everytime its been Soha who has taken the initiative for a patch up after they both have fought. It looks hard this time that she will make the first move." the source added.

I am a very romantic person: Soha Ali Khan

Starting her career with 2004 released flick Dil Mange More, Soha Ali Khan is still struggling to make her name count amongst the top actresses of tinsel town. Lets try to peek into the personal life of this gorgeous actress.

Q. You dont seem to be bothered by rumours?
A. That might stem from the fact that my family has been in the public light for many years now. Hence we very well know how some sections of the media, especially tabloid, functions and how to ignore them. Some smart people use such magazines for their own publicity by making provocative statements and then denying them later knowing very well that the public has already heard it. So, it doesnt matter what others are talking about.

Q. Who is your favourite personal designer?
A. I dont like anybody in particular. I sometimes even mix a Versace skirt with a streetside top. I will wear anything that catches my fancy. On the whole, I am a very casual person mostly you will see me in jeans and kurtis. For the evening I prefer saris.

Q. Do you take advice from your mother and brother before signing a film?
A. Yes, I always take their view points before signing on any new project.

Q. How well do you jell with your brother Saif?
A. Just like other siblings, Bhai and I used to fight a lot, but nowadays since we hardly get time to meet each other, whenever we do we have a lot to catch up with. Though we try not to talk about movies, we end up discussing the same.

Q. Your take on Saif as an actor?
A. He is one great actor and has this uncanny ability where despite playing greyish and negative characters [Ek Haseena Thi, Omkara], he does not have the audience hating him.

Q. If given a chance, which of your mothers films would you want to act in if remade?
A. Personally, I dont support remakes unless you can better the original. Making that clear, I would like to try my hands at Ammas Mausam and Amar Prem.

Q. It looks like you are in complete awe of your mom?
A. You bet. She is such a great lady who has successfully handled both work and family. Besides this she is also actively involved in social welfare. She is also such a great dresser. Even now when we dress for a party I have to be doubly sure to dress as good as she dresses. Compared to her wardrobe mine is nothing. She has a great choice in clothes, bags, shoes, etc.

Q. The success of Rang De Basanti has changed your career graph. Has it not?
A. Absolutely. I am being offered a whole variety of roles which range from practical to interesting to downright outrageous.

Q. What do you mean by outrageous?
A. (Laughs) You media folks are always looking for some kind of controversy. What I meant by outrageous were the kind of roles which I would not be comfortable doing.

Q. What do you do in your spare time?
A. I just love to read anything be it an autobiography or something interesting like Pulp Fiction (Fredrick Forsyth).

Q. Your relationship with your dad?
A. Dad and I share a similar nature. While Mom just snaps, Dad and I dont lose our cool easily. I discuss almost everything with him be it politics, sports, history, religion or just anything under the sun but films.

Q. Can you cook?
A. If you consider boiling, then I am a cook for I can make very good boiled eggs and pasta. Since I studied in England, I had to learn basic cooking like dal chaaval to fend for myself.

Q. What do your parents think of you?
A. My parents are very happy knowing that their daughter is very grounded and a smart person who knows what she wants. But being folks, they worry about me and would be much happier if I quit films and went back to my corporate job with Citibank.

Q. Are you a romantic person?
A. Yes, I am a very romantic person. Although there is no one currently with whom I can be romantic with.

Soha and Siddarth split up?

According to industry buzz, Siddarth and girl friend Soha Ali Khan have again had a major fight with Sid walking out of Soha's apartment.

Common friends reveal that the actor had moved in with Soha after buying her new pad in Bandra. In fact, whenever he's in town, he stays at Soha's place. According to sources it all began with a small argument.

Soha felt that Siddarth wasn't giving her enough time and attention. Since Siddarth refused to go public about their relationship, Soha is feeling stifled.

Siddarth is extremely moody and they often have fights. Soha loves to party and is an extrovert while Siddarth is a loner.

So this time, the fight got out of hand and Siddarth decided to move out. Siddarth shifted out a day before Saif's birthday party at Four Seasons.

Though both Siddarth and Soha came to the party together, he was very uncomfortable about getting his pictures clicked together with Soha and hid his face when the photogs tried to click them together.

Soha and Siddarth have had lot of fights in the past, but they haven't yet called it quits!
